I.e. "Note that these structures are implementation private..."
In context and with another usage on page 69, section 2.4.3, paragraph 2: - "The ulwp_t structure is implementation private and is not intended to be visible to callers od the interfaces..."
It would seem to be okay.
I don't know about that (I'm not there yet), but I have other comments from text earlier in the book:
- Page 7, paragraph 4, last sentence
Says "See the Solaris Performance and Tools for information on using DTrace". As stated, it makes more sense to remove the "the". I believe it's like this because on previous pages, such as page 6, last paragraph, it says "See the System Administration Guide: Solaris...". Technically, these say, see the "title". That's like saying "See the War and Peace for information about...". It may make more sense to say "See title[endnote number]" or "see the title book". And why aren't these books/guides in the bibliography? Comments?
- Page 8, paragraph 4 (x64 architecture support), last sentence
Says "Of course, support for multiprocessor Opteron processors, with the exceptional scalability of Solaris OS is now available on both SPARC and AMD64 platforms". Support for Opteron processors doesn't exist on SPARC platforms. The sentence could be reworded in a number of ways. "The exceptional scalability of Solaris OS is now available on both SPARC and AMD64 platforms because of the added support for multiple Opteron processors". Comments?
Agreed(DeanD). You should add to the errata.
Referring to table 10.3 the parameter maxpgio has defaults of 60 or 90. These defaults should be 40 or 60 as stated in 10.3.4 (see errata). This being a discussion page, why is this value hard coded per processor (See 10.3.4) anyway ? The value should a function of: -
- page-size (which can be determined by getpagesize(3C))
- the number of swap disks
- and the speed of the swap disks
I know that the lowest page-sizes for x86 and Sparc are; 4K and 8k respectively, thus dividing page-sizes by 100 would give 40 and 81, but...
With a bit of imagination, the error on page 227 (typo directly/directory) may or may not be an error. However, as written it does seem very weird.
